John Beattie
John Beattie is an Irish visual artist, originally from Donegal, and is currently based in Dublin. Over the last 13 years, his practice has been centred on interrogating the traditional ideal of the artist, and the location of the studio, exploring new meaning and value, in the context of the social-political space of the artists’ studio. Primary examples of this enquiry have taken the form of works and exhibitions such as: PERFORMING NGI.988, in collaboration with the National Gallery of Ireland, and The LAB Gallery, Dublin City Arts Office, 2016; A Line of Inquiry, Fort Dunree Museum, curated by Declan Sheehan, Co.Donegal, 2014; An Artist, The Studio, and all the rest…, The Royal Hibernian Academy, RHA, curated by Patrick Murphy, Dublin, 2012; and The Artist’s Studio Series, the Project Space, The Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, and he has exhibited nationally and internationally since 2002.
